With Spotify expanding its partnership with Samsung to have the app pre-installed on the Galaxy S10 and other new devices, Google is coming out with a promotion of its own. Google is offering Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ owners four months of YouTube Premium for free. It costs $11.99 per month.
In light of that, Spotify earlier today announced that its app will come pre-installed across the entirety of Samsung’s 2019 smartphone lineup, a list of devices which includes the company’s S10 models and even the Galaxy Fold. What’s more, Samsung buyers will be able to enjoy six free months of Spotify Premium right out of the gate.
“We were very excited to be named Samsung’s go-to music streaming service several months ago and today’s news will only ensure a more seamless Spotify listening experience across devices for listeners around the world,” Sten Garmark of Spotify said in a press release. “This partnership makes it easy for Samsung mobile users to access their favorite music and podcasts on Spotify, wherever they are and however they choose to listen.”
All in all, this is a pretty smart and strategic move for Spotify, especially amid reports that demand for Samsung’s new smartphones are coming in stronger than anticipated.

As far as Spotify’s ongoing battle with Apple Music, the latest figures show that Spotify currently boasts 96 million paid subscribers while Apple Music has more than 50 million subscribers. While some contend that Apple Music will inevitably catch up to and surpass Spotify in terms of overall users, Spotify in recent years has done an impressive job of boosting its cumulative number of paid subscribers.
Buyers of Samsung’s new Galaxy S10 phone can now get 6 months of Spotify Premium for free: The two companies announced the new joint promotion Friday morning, while also revealing that Spotify will be pre-installed on Samsung phones going forward. There is a bit of fine print to consider for the Spotify offer: As of now, it is only available to Galaxy S10 buyers, but Samsung may add other phone models to the promotion in the coming months. The offer is also only available to new subscribers, and not to existing or previous customers. And finally, it is restricted to the U.S., at least for now.
Samsung and Spotify first started to work with each other in August of last year, when Spotify was announced as the primary music service for Samsung’s Galaxy Home speaker.
As the two companies extend their partnership to mobile, Samsung is also tightly integrating Spotify’s service with its Bixby smart assistant. This includes music recommendations on the Bixby Home screen.

In addition to teaming up with Spotify, Samsung has also partnered with YouTube to give Galaxy S10 buyers access to 4 free months of YouTube Premium. The paid YouTube tier, which usually costs $11.99 per month, gives users access to an ad-free YouTube experience, offline playback and background play, as well as access to YouTube Music.
YouTube’s 4-month free trial will also be available for buyers of the Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Tab S5e, as well as customers in nearly 30 countries.
Samsung announced the Galaxy S10 at a press event in San Francisco last month and began selling it to consumers Friday. The phone features an edge-to-edge screen with a punch-hole cut-out for its front-facing camera, as well as a fingerprint reader integrated into the front screen.
